Twitterverse Thursday: How Was SXSW?

#ContentAs a Means for Social Change

This year Biz Stone returned to SXSW for the first time since Twitter hit it big there in 2007.  The Twitter co-founder wasn’t there to unveil “the next big awesome thing”, but to share five personal stories with useful lessons that can be applied to life and using content for social change.

The Newest Social Media Success In Town

The go-to place online for self-expression, inspiration and discovering new things? Why, that would be Pinterest of course! The social media “little engine that could” which recently surpassed the 11 million user mark in January was the star (in it’s own right) of a panel during SXSW Interactive.

The New Faces of Development

During SXSW the panel ”Africa, Tech & Women” panel focused on how African women are utilizing technology to empower themselves and advance the development of their country. These women are incorporating multiple ways to get their message out from advocating for human rights in the digital world and social spaces, to using mobile advertising to grow small businesses and contribute to their communities. Without a doubt, education plays a vital part in the growth of women in the developing world.

Kimbra Makes US Debut at SXSW

SXSW was a success for rising-star Kimbra. The New Zeland singer/songwriter didn’t have any time to “Settle Down” in Austin; she performed eight sets over four days! From all the buzz in the Twittersphere, it seems as though she will be the one to keep your eyes on!

Fiona’s Festival Gig

Fiona Apple’s showcase caused a multi-block line up in Austin. The performance debuted new material from her upcoming album “The Idler Wheel” slated for release this summer and kicked off her first tour in 5 years!

Rumble, Young Musicians, Rumble…

Springsteen was given the honors of delivering the keynote address where he talked about his musical heros, his journey through rock n’ roll and offered advice to young musicians. It’s no wonder we call him the boss!

If see any tweets that catch your eye about girls education, music, and tech, tweet your interesting twit bits to @girlswhorock and you may see them next week on GWR Twitterverse Thursday!
