Sandbox Global Summit: Meet the Bloomberg Businessweek Fellows
This month Sandbox will play host in Lisbon Portugal for a community of entrepreneurs, mentors, and Sandbox members looking to connect and confer ideas on all things related to entrepreneurial path.
Yet, this Global summit is not any ordinary networking event. This winter, Sandbox partnered with Bloomberg Businessweek and awarded six up and coming business leaders the change to attend and present their ideas at the Global Summit. This event will enable these future titans of industry to collaborate with other entrepreneurs on their ideas, but Sandbox Chief Innovation Agent Nadia Laurinci stresses the great opportunities for business and human development from the event as well, “ The fellows will most of all gain two concrete things from the fellowship: firstly, access to the Sandbox Global Summit in Lisbon, a three day action-packed experience where top young leaders from around the world will come together, share experiences, and forge life-long friendships, and secondly, the media exposure through the support of Bloomberg Businessweek. Bloomberg Businessweek will be filming short videos of each of the fellows, capturing the work they do, their connection with Sandbox, what they look forward to at the Summit, etc. These videos will be added to the Businessweek YouTube channel and available to the public. Bloomberg Businessweek will also conduct a wide media outreach about the Bloomberg Sandbox fellowship program, and its recipients.”
The competition was fierce for a coveted spot in the Sandbox Global Summit Fellowship program, but one underlying theme and factor played a part in the decision: “All the winners share an incredible drive and dedication to help and support other women in and outside of their communities. We at Sandbox as well as Bloomberg Businessweek believe in the value of bringing together and helping cultivate these up-and- coming and powerful young leaders. Together, we recognized an emerging theme among current and potential Sandboxers – women helping women – which provided a spark for us.”
GIRLS WHO ROCK is beaming with pride that our two co-founders—Cynthia Hellen and Tammy Tibbetts— were inducted into this prestigious program but we wanted to share with you two of the Sandbox Bloomberg Fellows who are not only lifting the sprits of other women, but guiding their female colleagues and friends to their best career and life path:
Virgilia Singh: So What’s on your Plate?
GIRLS WHO ROCK: For anyone who doesn’t know what So What’s on your plate, give them the gist of your organization?
Virgilia Singh: An action focused organization that brings women (of all ages, ethnicities and belief systems) together with a common goal to build lasting friendships, collaborate on personal/ professional projects and apply the skills of the community to create positive development in local communities.
VS: I have a habit of checking my e-mails via my phone right as I wake up, and that morning it was a huge surprise. I ran out of my room screaming “I’m going to Lisbon, Thank you Bloomberg!” This basically continued for the next ten minutes…
GWR: What attracted you to the entrepreneurial career path?
TM: I’ve written four fiction books that deal with love and betrayal. They’re murder mysteries. My books are really juicy and incredibly fun to write. I have quite the imagination!
On my website I focus on writing about entrepreneurship and self-love. Too many talented/gifted people doubt themselves. I’m on a personal mission to end their fear. It’s been pretty successful so far!
2012 will bring a few partnerships with some major TV networks, star studded live events, and speaking engagements at some major women conferences.
GWR: What/Where did you do when you found out that you would be a Sandbox Bloomberg Global Summit Fellow?
GWR: A big part of your personal branding/coaching is about taking stock of the situation and “get up and go harder,” how do you, and how can others, stay so positive even in the face of great adversity?
GWR: What attracted you to the entrepreneurial career path?
TM: I grew up watching people work jobs that they hated for 12 hrs out of the day and still not have enough money to pay the bills. I made a vow at 10yrs old that that wouldn’t be my story. I started a snow shoveling business at 10. Became a walking candy store in middle school. Got my nail license in high school and skipped class to do full sets and manicures during other students lunches and study halls. I was a natural born hustler.
The Sanbox Global Summit will be taking place January 20-22 in Lisbon Portugal. Tickets may still be available for Sandbox members through registration on the Sandbox site. For more information on Sandbox Network and how you can become a member, check out their website.
