‘Music is Universal, Education Should Be Too’: What it means to me

GIRLS WHO ROCK Co-Founder & She’s the First President Tammy Tibbetts wrote up an excellent article for the HuffPost Impact Section explaining what our tagline means to her.

In the article, Tammy touches how music can cut across culture and economic lines with a recent email she received from one of  GIRLS WHO ROCK’s sponsored girls,  Elizabeth David:

In an email I received on Saturday from Elizabeth David, the 18-year-old Tanzanian girl sponsored by GIRLS WHO ROCK, the benefit concert for She’s the First during Internet Week New York, she wrote, “My favourite musicians are Jordin Sparks, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Willow Smith, and Shontelle.” In a country where more than half of the population subsists on less than $1 per day, there is still a following for the same artists I listen to on my iPod. Music is universal

The article also details the origins of GIRLS WHO ROCK, and our efforts for #GWR2011! In addition to Elizabeth David’s favorites, what musical artists are you looking to see at GIRLS WHO ROCK 2011?
