Where Should GIRLS WHO ROCK Sponsor Girls This Year?
Thank You for Making GIRLS WHO ROCK a Hit! from GIRLS WHO ROCK on Vimeo.
In a mere two months and two days, a team of volunteers produced the first GIRLS WHO ROCK benefit concert during last June’s Internet Week New York. We raised $6,000 in one night – sponsoring six years’ worth of secondary education, computer training, and mentorship to three girls in Tanzania.
As the benefit concert of not-for-profit She’s the First, which sponsors girls’ education in the developing world, we had selected the Kisa Project program of AfricAid, an incredible NGO founded by 25-year-old Ashley Shuyler, as our beneficiary.
This year, which partner within the She’s the First directory (http://www.shesthefirst.org/directory) – or perhaps a new organization that should be considered for admittance to the directory – should we support?
YOU could be the voice that brings a deserving sponsorship program the rockstar funding it needs! We invite you to nominate a beneficiary on our Facebook wall ( http://facebook.com/girlswhorock) or tweet (and be sure to follow) us @girlswhorockny, using hash tag #GWR2011. We will give extra consideration to all nominees received before February 4th. We’re also looking for programs that embrace technology to connect students with their sponsors.
We’ll live Tweet, blog and record video updates as we select our concert venue, artist line-up, partners, sponsors, etc. So raise your glass if you are wrong…in all the right ways…(we’d be after Pink to perform if she wasn’t having her baby in June!)
Come rock out with us to fight for every girl’s chance to learn…even if we can’t reach them all, we can surely transform the lives of many.
- GWR Team
p.s. “Thank you” for helping us making 2010 a hit! Relieve the night to the tune of Mozella above!
